There are few experiences more quintessential to a college campus than a football game played under the lights on a crisp fall evening. While we are eager to return to our playing fields in front of loyal Bears fans, we are proceeding with fall planning with the utmost caution. Nothing is more important than the health of our student-athletes, our fans, and our staff. This Athletics Committee, led by Director of Athletics Jim Knowlton, is considering which staff to bring back to campus to initiate activity, as well as who can continue to work remotely. A full examination of athletics buildings and facilities is underway, and the team is considering whether competition can resume and under what conditions (e.g. without spectators). The recovery team includes team medical personnel. The Pac-12 Conference recently announced plans to allow for voluntary in-person athletic workouts beginning as early as June 15. The committee is evaluating to what extent this could be possible while ensuring that all procedures conform to accepted federal, state, local and campus guidelines.
